Calallen is a neighborhood located in the city of Corpus Christi, Texas. The neighborhood sits in the north-west and was originally a town in its own right. It became part of Corpus Christi in 1966. It is fairly large for a neighborhood and has the Routes 37 and 69 running through it. In Calallen you will find a growing suburb, an excellent school district and an area of economic reawakening.

The area has a detailed history, dating back to 1859 when it was founded by Calvin Joseph Allen. This is where it got its name from – Cal(vin) Allen became Calallen. The town became possible due to Allen’s land, which was donated towards the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico railroad in exchange for a depot. This made is possible for people to work and live in the area.

Hazel Bazemore Park is in the north-west of the area and is a great place for people to sit and relax or play around in the large fields. It has a circular path around it, which is excellent for running, walking and strolling.

Corpus Christi Medical Center Northwest is very close to the center of the neighborhood and has an emergency department.

River Hills Country Club has been a landmark in the area since 1946, originally part of Calallen town and now part of Corpus Christi. It offers golfing for everyone and is also a place for dining and special events.

All of the schools in the area are run by the Calallen Independent School District and operates five schools: three elementary schools, one middle school and a high school. Those schools are Wood River Primary Schools, East Primary School, Magee Intermediate School, Calallen Middle School and Calallen High School.
