Mathis TX Real Estate
Mathis is a small town with a big lake and great People. The lake is a popular recreational, garden spot in South Texas offering excellent water based recreations such as swimming, skiing, boating and fishing. The area is a winter home for hundreds of Winter Texans from all parts of the state and country as well as Canada.
Located in San Patricio County in Texas, Mathis does have a population of over 5000. It has a great history dating back to 1887, when it was founded by Thomas H. Mathis during the laying of tracks for the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad.
The town is very close to Lake Corpus Christi, which was originally named Lake Mathis. This lake has been around since the 1930s, when the Nueces River had a dam placed within it. During the late 1950s, the Wesley Seale Dam was placed, which meant that the water level in the lake rose. This led to the area being perfect for weekend homes and winter destinations.
The only park in the town is the Paiz Park, which is in the north of the city. It is located extremely close to a baseball field, which is used frequently. Mathis Cemetery is another major landmark, which is located just south-west of the town, on the outskirts.
Route 37 is on the east of the town, which offers excellent links to other towns, such as Edroy, to the south and Oakville to the north.
There are five schools in the town, which cater for children of different ages. The first is Mathis Elementary School and then children move onto Mathis Intermediate and Mathis Middle School. From there, students have the choice of Mathis High School or Mathis High School for International Studies.
There is a strong community in the area and the Mathis High School football games are an important part for everyone. This has lead to the Mathis High School Football Field becoming an important part of the town.
This is perfect for those looking for homes, whether for weekend breaks, a winter vacation destination or someone to live all year round. It may be a small town, but there are plenty of activities to do and shops to visit.
